My Love Affair with Fonts
Typography isn’t just about letters—it’s about voice, personality, and emotion. For me, it’s been an obsession since the moment I realized that the right font can change everything. The way a letter is shaped, the spacing between characters, and even the thickness of a stroke all carry a weight far beyond their visual appeal. From playful scripts to commanding serifs, each typeface tells its own unique story, waiting to be brought to life. Typography isn’t just a tool; it’s a form of expression that can evoke moods, set the tone, and connect with the audience on a deeper level.

Hi, I'm Kylee
Living creatively, designing passionately.

Where It All Began
My love for type started at a young age when I would talk to my mother, saying, “Hey, those letters are made out of candy, like a candy store!” I was observing, even then, how letters had their own character and life. This fascination grew over time, especially in my college design courses, where I first experienced Montserrat in action, and I realized how powerful type could be. The clean, modern lines of Montserrat captivated me, but it was the swooping serifs of Playfair that truly opened my eyes to how type could evoke personality and emotion.
Fonts as Storytellers
Every font has a personality. A sans-serif can feel modern and sleek, while a calligraphic script might evoke romance or nostalgia. My favorite part of branding is selecting the perfect font for the mark and creating combinations that elevate the identity. It’s a process of exploration: finding the ideal typeface that aligns with the tone, message, and audience. I spend just as much time choosing fonts as I do crafting the visuals.

Typography in Everyday Life
Fonts aren’t just for work; they’re everywhere. I’ve caught myself analyzing store signage, critiquing restaurant menus, and even identifying typefaces in movie credits. To some, it might seem obsessive, but for me, it’s pure joy. Typography is a lens through which I see the world, adding depth and meaning to the ordinary.
Each letter carries its own anatomy, a unique structure that gives it character. From the graceful curves of a serif to the bold simplicity of a stroke, these details tell stories. The crossbar in an “A,” the descender of a “y,” and the aperture of a “g” each play a role, much like actors in a cast. When combined, they create a visual rhythm, transforming text into art.

The Hunt for the Perfect Typeface
My library of fonts is like a treasure chest, constantly growing. I collect them like a connoisseur collects fine art, each one a masterpiece in its own right. Some are practical, others purely experimental, but all of them fuel my creativity.
Why Typography Matters
At its core, typography is about connection. It’s about creating a visual language that speaks to people before they even read the words. It’s about bridging design and communication in a way that’s as beautiful as it is functional.
For me, it’s not just an obsession—it’s a lifelong passion. Typography isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am.
